Welcome back to school! We hope the summer provided ample rest, time outdoors and a change of pace from our often busy and overscheduled lives. We are heading back to a school calendar refreshed and energized for some cooler weather and routine.

Happy Summer! We hope you are enjoying a restful summer break, recharging for the coming school year and soaking in the outdoors whatever the weather. Build Up CA is executing our final push in the legislature this summer as well as preparing for the upcoming year.
Happy Pride!
This month we celebrated the diversity that makes our early care and education communities beautiful, strong, and resilient. The care takers that model pride in their gender and sexual identities can be crucial supports and resources for young children learning to fully express themselves.
Celebrating AAPI Month
This May, we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. According to the most recent data from the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment, providers that identify as Asian make up 12% of the California family child care workforce, 9% of center directors and 10% of center teaching staff.

Women’s History Month
Happy Women’s History Month! We were happy to spend the month of March celebrating the hardworking women that make the early care and education system go round. This system was created by Black women and is upheld by women of color that work tirelessly to provide young children with high quality, loving care.
Celebrating Black History Month
This Black History Month, we reflected on the strength, sacrifice and contribution of Black women to the early care and education field. Respect to the profession and importance of child care to our local economics and communities starts with adequate compensation and work place conditions.

The New Year has already brought with it challenges and heartache. We are saddened to witness the destruction and devastation caused by the fires in Southern California and are deeply concerned for the wellbeing of families, children and child care providers affected by the disaster.
